Despite a diplomatic conflict over Khalistani extremism, Canada continues to issue visas to Indians.

There will be 118,095 Indians with permanent residency in Canada by 2022. 59,503 Indians became Canadian citizens after becoming permanent residents.

India’s visa processing center in Canada halted operations on September 21 for operational reasons. This covers Toronto, Ottawa, and Vancouver centers. Indian nationals seeking to enter Canada continue to be granted visas by Canadian officials. This is despite the fact that India’s foreign ministry has suspended the issuance of visas to any Canadian citizen, regardless of citizenship.

India and Canada are at odds diplomatically after Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made ‘credible allegations’ that the Indian government and Indian intelligence were involved in the June 2023 killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia’s Surrey.

According to CIC News, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) intends to process 80% of applications within service standards, regardless of country.

According to 2022 research by the Canadian Bureau for Overseas Education (CBIE), overseas students pick Canada for their education due to its distinctive reputation for safety and tolerance.

According to the CBIE, 40% of international students in Canada will be Indian by 2022. This is despite the Indian government issuing a similar warning in September 2022.

According to IRCC, there will be 800,000 international students in Canada by 2022. This translates to around 320,000 Indian students studying in Canada during the previous academic year.
