If your spouse is studying in Canada, and you’re applying for a spousal open work permit, here are the latest eligibility rules:
PhD Students: Spouses of PhD students are eligible to apply for a spousal open work permit.
Master’s Students: Spouses can apply for the permit if the master’s program is 16 months or longer. •One-Year Master’s Program: If the master’s program is only one year, the spouse is not eligible to apply for the permit.
For students enrolled in bachelor’s programs, there may be future updates. The government has indicated that some bachelor’s students could become eligible for spousal visas, but we are still waiting for more details.
